Harris W. Greene, 79
Funeral services for HARRIS W. GREENE, 79, will be held at 2pm Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the East Gate Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Sparks officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Harris left this world Sunday, August 12, 2012 to go to his home in Heaven to be with the Lord. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Youth Group at East Gate Baptist Church. The casket will be open briefly prior to the service. Harris was born October 16, 1932 in Crawford, Nebraska to Wesley J. and Martha E. (Miefert) Greene. The family moved to Torrington in 1947 where he attended Torrington Schools graduating from THS in 1951. In June of 1951 he joined the US Air Force and went to San Antonio, Texas for training to be a gunner on the B-29. He was stationed in Japan for six months, flying fifty missions over Korea. In December of 1951 he came home and married his high school sweetheart Betty Starner. There would be three children born to this union. They would be married for sixty years and eight months. He spent eight years in the Air Force and returned home to ranch south of Lusk, Wyoming for twenty some years and also joined the Wyoming Air National Guard in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he had a total of thirty-five years serving his country. Flying also in the Viet Nam War. He graduated for Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne and also Colorado Aero Tech with an AF&P license. He went to work for Continental Air Line in Houston, Texas as a quality control inspector where he worked for the next twelve years. They returned to Torrington where he started a home improvement business.Harris was a member of the East Gate Baptist Church.
Harris is survived by his wife Betty of Torrington, Wyoming; two sons James (Joanne) Greene, and Robert (Teresa) Greene; a daughter Katherine Greene Vliem; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers
