Mareen Goddard, 96, Torrington
MAREEN GODDARD, 96, will be held at 10am Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Valley View Cemetery with Reverend Ora Dailey officiating. Mareen died September 14, 2012 at Evergreen Court. Memorials have been established to the Torrington United Methodist Church, Eastern Wyoming College Foundation for Scholarships, and Evergreen Court. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 3pm to 7pm. Mareen was born February 28, 1916 in Hemmingford, Nebraska the daughter of Nels and Elise (Johnson) Petersen. The family moved to Alliance, Nebraska where she grew up and graduated from Alliance High School. She married C.R. Goddard at Alliance on September 9, 1933. The couple moved to Torrington, Wyoming in 1939 where they bought the Ben Franklin Store. After her children were raised Mareen worked at the store in the clothing department until she retired in 1994. She moved to Evergreen Court in the fall of 2000. While living there she enjoyed bingo and bible study.
Mareen was a member of the Torrington United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing golf, bowling leagues, needlepoint, bridge clubs, and flower gardening.
Mareen is survived by two daughters Joyce Vandel and her husband John of Laramie, Wyoming, and Karen Bandemer and her husband Russ of Williston, North Dakota; two sons Larry Goddard and his wife Jodie of Grand Junction, Colorado and Greg Goddard and his wife Connie of Buffalo, Wyoming; a sister-in-law Dorothy Leach of Torrington, Wyoming; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband C.R. Goddard; one great granddaughter Ava Goddard; one sister Gladys Reynolds; and one brother Hans Petersen.
