Melvin "Mel" L. Yenney, 82, Gering

Melvin "Mel" L. Yenney, 82, of Gering passed away August 26, 2012 at his home. As per his request cremation has taken place and there will be no service. At a later date family will have military honors and inurnment at West Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Western Nebraska Veteran's Home, Festival of Hope, or Prairie Haven Hospice.

Mel was born in Fremont, NE August 10, 1930 to Leonard and Elizabeth (Hahn) Yenney. He moved with his family to Wyoming at six years of age. He attended grade school in Lusk, and then moved to Guernsey where he graduated from high school in 1949. He worked for a short time for Peter Kewitt Construction, and then joined the Air Force from 1951-1955 where he was a top mechanic on B-29's and B-50's.

He married Patsy Glasgow on September 29, 1952 in Gering, Nebraska. There were two children born to this marriage.

After returning home he worked with his father at Modern Cleaners in Gering. He eventually purchased Fashion Cleaners in Scottsbluff and also had the Reel-A-Lure tackle shop. Mel was a member of the Eagles, Cosmopolitan Club and American Legion.

Mel loved to fish, camp and hunt. His favorite past time was fishing with his buddies Bill, Ralph, and Harold. After retirement he enjoyed driving the gambling bus to Prairie Winds and Deadwood, when he quit driving the bus he still enjoyed riding it to Prairie Winds and Deadwood.

Mel is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Patsy of Gering; sister, Sharon of Colorado; and a special cousin Darlene Rich of Glen Rock, WY; several special nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his two infant children, parents, his mother-and father-in-law, 2 sister-in-laws and 1 brother in-law.
