Mildred Claire "Millie" Hess Mundt, 84

Mildred Claire "Millie" Hess Mundt, 84, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at her home.

Millie was born December 27, 1927 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Jacob and Flora (Good) Hess. She grew up on a dairy farm with 6 brothers and 5 sisters. She was one of only two of the children who went on to High School in Millersville, PA and graduated in 1946. Millie then went on to Lancaster School of the Bible. She also worked for RCA assembling color televisions. After graduation she joined the ministry of Rural and Village Missions. She was sent to small country churches in Kansas and Nebraska to help with their services and Sunday Schools.

In 1958 she found herself in the small village of Berea, Nebraska. While working at the church there she met and married Arley Leroy Mundt on June 14th, 1958. They had three children Arley David, Warren Douglas, and Anne Elizabeth. Millie was a devoted mother and made countless trips to town for baseball or football games, swimming, music lessons and performances and Bible school.

Arley and Millie settled down on the family farm near Berea. Millie was used to the hard work of farm life. She sold cream and eggs in town and dressed out about 200 chickens every summer along with raising a garden and canning the produce in the fall. As the children became old enough for school she began to work a variety of jobs to help provide for the family. Millie cleaned houses, worked the potato harvest, worked the night shift at Electric Hose and Rubber. She then started work for many years at Woolrich until she was asked to be the Story Hour Lady at the Public Library. There she was known and loved by the preschool population of Alliance. When she retired from the library she worked at Honey Bear Preschool and when her knees began to ache she became a volunteer at the hospital gift shop and the mission store.

Millie had a fervent devotion to Christ, a servant's heart and a seemingly endless supply of energy. She was involved in church as a Sunday School teacher, song leader, and often wrote and directed Christmas programs. She gave of herself in many ways. She sang at weddings and funerals and visited those who were at home or in the hospital. Millie could turn out a meal in record time and liked to cook for others, taking kettles of homemade soup, or pies to friends and neighbors. All this she did even into her eighties.

At eighty-four Millie was growing tired and dealt with the pain of arthritis. She is now at rest with her Savior.

Millie is survived by her sisters Flora Ober of Willow Street, PA, Miriam Gockley of Lititz, PA, Lillian Myers of Lancaster, PA, and Arlene Shank of Ephrata, PA and two brothers, Warren Hess of Willow Street, PA and Oliver Hess of Russellville, KY. She is also survived by her children, Arley David Mundt of San Diego, CA, Warren Mundt of Scottsdale, AZ and Anne Koperski of Elba, NE, her grandchildren Ashley Love of Armour, SD, Amy Koperski of Elba, NE and Sophia, Samuel, and Grace Mundt of Scottsdale, AZ and 2 great-grandchildren Xhavier and Douglas McGregor of Armour, SD.

Mille was preceded in death by her husband Arley, brothers Clarence, Wayne,
Henry, and Wilber Hess, sisters Elizabeth Hess and Ester (died at birth) and her granddaughter Shelby Koperski.
