Evelyn was born Evelyn Yost in Sidney, Nebraska on March 22, 1929. A self described "child of the prairie", she spent her childhood on farms and in the small towns of western Nebraska, often playing with and enjoying the company of her uncles, Jack and Gene, who were close to her in age. Her mother, Fern, was always there for her in those years. It was during her childhood that she first met her future husband and the love of her life, Harold Fiegenschuh.

They later became high school sweethearts who married on November 28, 1947. Subsequently they built their life together along with their children Lanny, then Renae, who was born after the loss of another son, Larry Dean. Evelyn and Harold lived primarily in the Sidney area, after exploring life in California and Arizona.

Evelyn was an educator who began teaching almost directly out of high school after attending the summer session at Chadron State College. Over the years she obtained a bachelors degree from Chadron State and taught elementary school in numerous rural schools in the Sidney area.

Evelyn was a loving wife and mother, and a great joy to the many loyal friends she cultivated over the years. Her many and varied interests included local and family history, antiques and collectibles, arts and crafts, literature, and so much more. She was deeply devoted to her church, and belonged to the Sidney Seventh Day Adventist Church for approximately 55 years, where she shared her talents as a teacher and lesson presenter with both children and adults.

Evelyn's smile could light up just about any room, and for those who were blessed by its warmth, it will be sorely missed, as well as her loving and generous spirit. She was loved and adored by friends and family who will miss her terribly, but who are grateful that she is now at peace and suffering no pain, asleep in the Lord.

Survivors include her husband Harold of Sidney, NE; one daughter Renae Fiegenschuh (Mike Ellis) of Ft. Collins, CO and one son Lanny Fiegenschuh (Claudia Wylie) of Oklahoma City, OK

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother and one son.
