George R. Arntt, 86, Torrington
Funeral services for GEORGE R. ARNTT, 86, will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Torrington, Wyoming with Pastor Scott Firminhac officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home on Friday, August 31, 2012 from 3pm to 7pm. Mr. Arntt died on August 29, 2012 at the Goshen Care Center. Memorials in his honor may be directed to either the Goshen Care Center Living Room Project or to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home.
He was born on January 16, 1926 in Greeley, Colorado the son of Sam and Christine (Lenhardt) Arntt. The family moved to Torrington, Wyoming in 1928 where George's father farmed in the Yoder and Huntley areas. George received his early education in Huntley, Wyoming and then joined the US Marines in 1943. He went on to serve in WWII and was discharged in 1946. George returned to Torrington and went to work for Berggren & Sons Construction. On April 2, 1948 he married Helen Brockel in Torrington. In 1955 he went to work for Holly Sugar Corp in Torrington and then in 1967 transferred to Hereford, Texas where he and Helen lived and worked until his retirement in 1991. Almost immediately, George volunteered at Hereford Senior Center where he drove "Meals on Wheels" for 10 years. In 2006 the couple moved back to Torrington and in 2011 George entered the Goshen Care Center.
He enjoyed playing cards and bingo and spending time with his family. He liked listening and dancing to Polka music. George was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Torrington; his son, Rick (Jennifer) Arntt also of Torrington; three daughters, Linda (Marvin) Fulk of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Sandra (Ronnie) Short; and Georgia Smith all of Hereford, Texas; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight sisters, two brothers, one grandson, and one son-in-law.
