Verlin W. Livingston, 88, Broadwater

Verlin W. Livingston, 88 of Broadwater passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at his home.

His memorial service will be held on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater with Ann Bairn, PMA officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to the church or the Broadwater Volunteer Fire Department. Tributes of sympathy may be left at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Verlin was born July 15, 1924, to Arvin and Nellie (Grey) Livingston on the family farm west of Sidney. He attended Mt. Vernon Country School through 8th grade and graduated from Sidney High School in 1942.

As a youth he was very active in 4-H. In 1946, he was awarded a National 4-H trip to Washington, D.C. After high school, he became active in Cheyenne County Rural Youth. In 1949, he was elected president of Rural Youth USA. Verlin served as lay leader for the Sidney Methodist Church for many years, and also served on the building committee for the Methodist Church. He was a 4-H leader, President of Extension Sponsoring Board, President of 4-H Council, and served on various co-op boards. In 1971, he was Worshipful Master of Frank Welch Masonic Lodge # 75 of Sidney.

Verlin married Dora Hueftle in 1953. They made their home west of Sidney. Verlin raised registered Hereford cattle and sold bulls at the "On Top" and Western Nebraska sales at Alliance and other registered bull sales in Sidney, Chappell and Ogallala. In 1971, he purchased the ranch east of Broadwater. The family joined the Presbyterian Church. He served on the session several years. The Presbyterians joined with the Messiah Lutheran Church and he served on the council.

Survivors include his wife, Dora of Broadwater; daughters Debbie (Ken) Schledewitz of Mitchell and Tammie (Dave) Ostdiek of Scottsbluff; son Mark (Brandi) Livingston of Broadwater; sister Eileen Meyer of Gering; sister-in-law Pat Livingston of Buffalo, WY; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Amy) Schledewitz of Morrill, Teresa (Greg) Ross of Laramie, WY, Nathan (Kinley) Livingston of Omaha, Amy (Ashley) Ostdiek of Longmont, CO, Ryan Livingston (Trisha McDonald) of Broadwater, Timothy Ostdiek of Scottsbluff and Jaslyn Livingston of Broadwater and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wayne; granddaughter Melissa Schledewitz and brother-in-law Edward Hueftle.
