Safe Ride OTD being organized

Oregon Trail Days spectators are going to have a special service available to make sure they can get from one location to another safely.

Spurred by the moving of the celebration's Chili Cook Off to he Five Rocks Amphitheater, Gering Citizen Publisher Lisa Betz is organizing a volunteer effort to provide rides home or to other OTD locations for those attending the celebration. Betz has scheduled an organizational meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Gering Citizen for volunteers interested in providing rides.

Betz says anyone not wanting to provide rides can help by answering phones and being a dispatcher at the Citizen. The hours Betz wants to cover are from 8 p.m. Friday to 1:30 a.m. Saturday and from 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Ameristar is offering a shuttle from the Cook-Off to the Civic Center from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Kevin Stocker says the shuttle will leave the Civic Center at the top of every hour and from Five Rocks at the bottom of every hour.
