Rev. Donald E. Littrell, 101, formerly of Scottsbluff

Rev. Donald E. Littrell, 101, formerly of Scottsbluff, entered into Eternal Life Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. A memorial service will be conducted through Gering Memorial Chapel and will be announced at a later date. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com.

Donald Elliot Littrell was born in Phillips, NE, May 30, 1911 to Rev. Earl N. and Etta Littrell, the second of eight children. He graduated from Allen High School in Allen, NE. A devoted student of theology, he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, Wayne State University, the University of Denver and Lliff School of Theology, where he was ordained into the ministry.

On July 19, 1935, he wed Thelma (Tommie) Good. They had one son, Arlen "Joe" and fostered a number of children in their home.
Rev. Littrell served as a Methodist Church Senior Pastor in Kimball, Lincoln, Ogallala, Fairbury and Mitchell, NE, retiring in 1981. For more than 20 summers the Littrell family vacationed in the Colorado mountains, where Rev Littrell also served as Chaplain in the Pines at Big Creek Lake, west of Walden, CO.

In his long and distinguished career, Rev. Littrell served as Dean of the Nebraska Pastor's School and on the commissions of evangelism, stewardship, and worship. Dedicated to civic matters as well, he was President of Rotary Club in Ogallala and Fairbury, and served on the Governor's committee for Human Relations and the Governor's Commission on Youth. He was active with the Red Cross and the Boy Scouts of America, and received National Honors from the Jaycees. He was named to Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Clergy.
For the past 3 years Rev. Littrell had resided at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard.

Rev. Littrell was preceded in death by Tommie, his loving wife of 72 years.

He is survived by his son Joe Littrell and Joe's fiancé, Marsha Jane Buettenback of Scottsbluff; one brother Wayne and wife Dorothea Littrell of Denver.
