Ronald LeRoy Wooden, 83, Scottsbluff

Ronald LeRoy Wooden, 83, of Scottsbluff, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.

Per Ronnie's request, there will not be a viewing before cremation. A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Sunset Memorial Park in Scottsbluff with Pastor Al Wilson and Pastor Darryl Potts officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air force.

Memorials may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice or directed to the family for later designation.

Ronnie was born September 13, 1930, to Samuel and Ruby (Gravatt) Wooden in Gering. Ronnie grew up in the Carter Canyon area south of Gering where he helped his father farm.

Ronnie enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He was last stationed at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base in Niagara Falls, NY, where he met his wife Shirley of 60 years. Ronnie and Shirley were married on November 21, 1953, and to this union three children were born.
Ronnie and Shirley moved back to Nebraska in 1960, where they have made their home since.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Pamela Gibb of Scottsbluff and Rhonda (Bobby) Trojan of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren, Benjamin Tompkins of Fairbanks, Alaska, Leisha Tompkins of Aurora, Colorado, and Amanda (Christopher) Penny of Scottsbluff; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Deven, Serenity, Brooke, Misty, Hunter, and Edgar; sister, Rosanne Powell of Scottsbluff; brothers, Gary (Jesse) Wooden of Lincoln, California, and Frank (Sharon) Wooden of Scottsbluff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Beth; parents, Sam and Ruby Wooden; grandparents, Frank and Hanna Gravatt and Fred and Mary Wooden; and sister, Dorothy Sauer.
