Teens arrested for stealing car after short pursuit

Two Scottsbluff teenagers were arrested by Scottsbluff Police for motor vehicle theft after a short pursuit early Tuesday morning.

Scottsbluff Police Captain Brian Wasson says Police attempted to stop a car at East 20th Street and Second Avenue around 4 a.m. for a tail light violation. Wasson says the vehicle took off and drove through residential areas at 40 to 50 miles per hour before striking a trailer. The driver, 17 year old Kain Hickman, was arrested after a short foot pursuit and a passenger, 18 year old Rex Eby, was taken into custody after he returned to the scene approximately 12 minutes later.

Wasson says the car Hickman was driving had not been reported stolen, but officers determined during the investigation it had been taken from a west Scottsbluff residence.

Hickman was also booked into jail for reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest and a number of traffic violations. Eby was also arrested for obstructing law enforcement .
