Gering council accepts condemned properties gift

The Gering city council Monday night agreed to accept ownership of two properties that have been condemned in southeast Gering and been the subject of complaints from neighbors.

Mayor Ed Mayo says the city will accept the gift from Max Carpenter, personal representative of his parent's estate, pending authorization on a final contract.

The properties at 910 and 920 K street are in disrepair and have concerned neighbors, who say they look horrific and are health hazards.

Mayo says the city will likely demolish the structures although Dave Winters, co-owner of a landscaping company, has expressed interest in purchasing and rehabilitating one of the homes during the off-season for the landscaping business.
