Bluffs Quiet Zone agreement signed
The city of Scottsbluff Thursday signed final agreements resulting in full implementation of the city's Rail Safety/Quiet Zone effective June 4th. This means trains horns will cease on that date and there will be no audible signals from the trains.
Scottsbluff Mayor Randy Meininger says the agreement is a great day for the city of Scottsbluff and will make the city a much better place to live.
The city still cautions motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to be aware of the change and take precautions when approaching the crossings. The press release announcing the agreement also says electronic gear will be in place to alert train engineers if conditions on the rail require them to sound the horns.
The agreement culminates eight years of work by many individuals, consultants, BNSF, federal, state and local officials, including the city councils and staff.
