Long-time Lied Scottsbluff children's librarian Deb Carlson was honored Thursday by the Scottsbluff Kiwanis Club with their inaugural Youth Service Award.

Carlson has been with the library for thirty years and former Scottsbluff librarian Bev Russell says Carlson has made the children's library the best in the state and one of the best in the nation.

Carlson says the community and its businesses have always made children's literacy one of their top priorities. Carlson's summer reading program has had amazing success, with 1,800 participants this summer, and a completion rate of over 80%.

Carlson says she is thrilled and humbled by the award, and especially receiving it from an organization that has made children and young people their number one priority.
