Panel says Bruning violated disclosure law
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ A state panel has ruled that Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning violated a campaign disclosure law when he failed to report his ownership stake in a $675,000 lake home.
The Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission approved a settlement
Friday with the Republican attorney general. Bruning could have faced a $2,000 fine, but the commission voted 8-0 not to assess a penalty.
Bruning bought the home through a time-share agreement with two executives from the student-loan company Nelnet. The arrangement drew criticism from Democrats last year, before Bruning was defeated in his Republican primary bid for the state's U.S. Senate race.
The commission ruled that Bruning didn't properly disclose his ownership in the house in 2009, but it dismissed charges that he failed to report it in 2008 and 2010.
