Olga Graf, 87, Scottsbluff

Olga Graf, 87, of Scottsbluff, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. A celebration of Olga's life will take place Friday, October 11th at St. Agnes Church with Father Vince Parsons as Celebrant. The ceremony will begin at 2:30 PM and will be followed by refreshments in the church basement. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials in Olga's memory be given in care of Prairie Haven Hospice.

She was born Olga D. Harris, October 27, 1926, in Panama City, Panama to Pablo and Blanca Harris. Olga graduated from High School and completed a number of college courses before and during her role as secretary to the manager of Columbia Pictures of Panama, Inc. She worked for Columbia Pictures for ten years prior to moving to the States to wed James R. Graf.

She married the late James R. Graf on July 24, 1955, just six days after arriving state side July 18th. Their long distance courtship includes a shoebox stuffed with inspiring love letters. They lived together in Bayard, Ne., before relocating to Scottsbluff, Ne. a short time later.

Olga was a secretary at Panhandle Community Services, an organization that provided health services to women in the Scottsbluff County community. At the same time she worked as a secretary, she also, along with other women of her generation, created a comfortable home environment where all were welcome.

Fueled by her passion for creativity, one could often find Olga painting, sewing, gardening, singing, dancing, baking and cooking.

She retired in May 1998 and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her grandchildren. Both Olga and James attended track meets, basketball games and any other activities the grandkids participated in on a regular basis.

Olga is survived by two children: James R. Graf Jr., of Scottsbluff NE.; Jacqueline Wickard, of Eureka Springs AR. She also is survived by nine grandchildren: Yancy Graf of Baltimore MD; Julia Crawford of El Paso TX; Justin Wickard of Fort Worth TX; Adela Graf of Kansas City MO; Brooke Savant DC of Dallas TX; James R. Graf III of Scottsbluff NE; Tawny Johnson of Rapid City SD; Michelle Wickard of Dallas TX and Lisa Guel of Scottsbluff, NE. She also is survived by and 6 great-grandchildren: Jule, Alexiah, Ruby, Tristan, Isabela and Jameson.
