Monument Plan comment period begins today
After more than a year in development, the Trail Plan for Scotts Bluff National Monument will be released for 30-day public comment this coming Monday, July 22nd.
Monument Superintendent Ken Mabery says incorporated into the plan is a suggestion by visiting fifth year architecture students at UNL to develop "e-Trails. "
Mabery is excited to try the new concept because it could significantly reduce the cost of implementing new trails, especially in the face of reduced federal funding. Mabery says over the next few years the Park Service will seek grants and other non-federal funds to move forward.
The comment period closes on August 20th and after taking the comments into account the new trail plan should be signed and approved around the first of September. An Open House is scheduled the evening of July 30th at the Farm and Ranch Museum to see a short presentation on what could become the final plan. The public can also access and comment on the plan by going to ttp://parkplanning.nps.gov/
