A 65 year old rural Minatare woman escaped serious injury this morning after falling asleep at the wheel while driving along Lake Minatare Road.

According to the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department, Sandra Suhr was traveling eastbound on Lake Minatare Road at approximately 7:25 a.m. when she fell asleep and her 1998 Buick LaSabre left the roadway entering the ditch near County Road 26.

Sgt. Troy Brown says Suhr was very lucky, having driven approximately 100 feet into the ditch, narrowly missing a culvert by about 3 feet. Brown said she was placed on oxygen and transported to Regional West Medical Center by Valley Ambulance for a bump on the head.

Damage to Suhr's Buick was estimated at $1,500.
