Rare birds bred at RDC
Riverside Discovery Center zoo announced Wednesday they have successfully bred a very rare bird. According to Zoo Director, Peter Halladay, there are less than 500 Waldrapp Ibis left in the wild and RDC has bred two. The birds, now only native to Morocco and Syria, have seen their numbers decline due to pesticide use, hunting and habitat destruction.
Halladay says the two new babies are out now on display. They are nearly as large as the adults. The Waldrapp Ibis exhibit is found next to the Rainforest Discovery building in the center of the zoo.
