Local Firefighters participate in specialized training

Firefighters with the Scottsbluff Fire Department, Gering Fire Deparment and Scotts Bluff Rural Fire Department participated in a joint exercise at the Sugar factory Sunday.

21 area firefighters spent the morning perfecting their skills on high angle rope rescues, confined space rescues and patient packaging and care. Participants used their skills to rescue simulated patients from scenarios both inside and outside the factory. The realistic, scenario based training is invaluable to area firefighters as it allows for interagency team building and preparation for future incidents. Having the opportunity for firefighters from all three local departments train together allows for a continuity of skills and techniques amongst all the departments so the most safe, rapid and effective rescue can be perfected when they are called upon for help.

On Sunday, August 25th, firefighters with the Scottsbluff Fire Department, Gering Fire Department and Scotts Bluff Rural Fire Department participated in a joint exercise at the Sugar Factory. 21 area firefighters spent the morning perfecting their skills on high angle rope rescues, confined space rescues and patient packaging and care. Participants used their skills to rescue simulated patients from scenarios both inside and outside the sugar factory.

Scottsbluff Fire Department's Public Information Officer Justin Houstoun says this realistic, scenario based training, is invaluable to area firefighters as it allows for interagency team building and preparation for future incidents. He says having the opportunity for firefighters from all three local departments to train together allows for a continuity of skills and techniques amongst all the departments so the most safe, rapid and effective rescue can be performed when we are called upon to help.
