Storm produces rain but also hail

Many communities in western Nebraska and southeast Wyoming received nice precipitation from the storm that rolled through the region, but there were also reports of good sized hail that came with it.

In the eastern end of Scotts Bluff County, there were reports of washed out roads north of Minatare and south of Melbeta. The Minatare fire department reported some flash flooding in low lying areas. Six miles north of Morrill a lightning strike split a tree with a large branch falling into the yard, and another onto a roof.

Even with the precipitation from last evening, we have only had 5" of official rainfall, three inches below normal for the year.

The precipitation amounts are as follows.

.25 at Scottsbluff Airport
.24 1 1/4 North of Riverview
.40 Alliance
.22 Chadron
.06 Sidney
.22 Torrington
.45 Gering
