More Gering burglary arrests

Two more arrests have been made by Gering Police regarding a residential burglary that occurred overnight Saturday and Sunday morning.

Investigator James Jackson confirms 19 year old Shane Merrills and 18 year old Robbie Strauss were arrested Tuesday for burglary. They join 18 year old Byron Stieb of Gering, who was also charged Monday with burglary in the break-in at the home of Mary Votruba at 1180 17th Street.

Police say the burglars broke into the home through a basement window, and once inside they ransacked the property. Captain George Holthus says holes were made in the drywall, beds were overturned and figurines and lamps were damaged. Holthus says a variety of property was taken... including a mattress baseball bats, jewelry and coins.... but nearly all of it was recovered after the arrest.

Merrills and Strauss will make their first court appearances on the charges later this week.
