Gering council refers communications center funding request to committee
The Gering council Monday night also referred to its public safety committee the issue on whether the city should help fund equipment upgrades for Scotts Bluff County's Communications center. The county is asking municipalities it serves to help with $349,000 it has in the budget to pay for the improvements.
The council initially indicated the request for assistance in a late August letter came too late in the budget process for their consideration. But Monday night both Larry Gibbs and Jill McFarland indicated the city may have "an obligation" to assist in funding the improvements, but questioned what exactly the city's "fair share" of the cost should be.
Council members also indicated they need more information from the county on exactly what their financial help would fund, how much in total the county is going to request over the next two years for the equipment improvements, and how the funding assistance between municipalities will be determined.
