United Way exceeds campaign goal
The United Way of Western Nebraska have annouced the results of the 2012-2013 fundraising campaign. Campaign co-chairs Katie Camacho and Krista Sarchet told reporters Friday that response from the community was amazing, exceeding their goal by nearly $70,000. They had set an ambitious goal of $360,000, but Camacho and Sarchet said the final tally was $429,573.
Camacho attributed the success of the campaign to a variety of things. She said a great Duck Dash and other special events helped with the increase, having a big company like NationStar encourage employees to give was a huge benefit, and with current Pacesetters exceeding goals set for them, it all came together.
Sarchet commented on how incredible the community is in coming together to help others. She said while there were a number of contributing factors, it all comes down to the spirit of the people who live and work here.
Executive Director Steph Black said a good portion of the increase could be attributed to more participation with employees of various companies donating through payroll contributions.
The final total was announced during a luncheon celebration at the Gering Civic Center Friday.
