Mary Yamamoto, 89, Scottsbluff

Mary Yamamoto, 89, of Scottsbluff, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at her home. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Mary's wishes and services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting Jolliffe Funeral Home of Scottsbluff is assisting the family.

Mary was born December 16, 1923 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Hachizo (Harry) and Chiyo (Christine) Ono. She attended school in the Wyoming communities of Rosette, Croton, Wakely, and Kendrick before graduating from high school in Clearmont in 1942.

She began nursing training in 1943 through the Cadet Nursing Program in Aberdeen, South Dakota and graduated as a registered nurse from the Presentation School of Nursing in Miles City, Montana in 1945. She was employed as a surgical nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver until her move to Nebraska in 1952 when she continued her career at St. Mary's Hospital in Scottsbluff.

She married Tad Yamamoto on November 8, 1953. They farmed in the Minatare area until retirement in 1988 when they moved to Scottsbluff. She was an active member of Holy Apostles' Episcopal Church in Mitchell for over 50 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia of Scottsbluff; sister, May Murata of Brighton, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Patricia Ono, Rose Yamamoto, Misako Yamamoto, Mary Shibao, Leila Myers, Irene Kubo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband, brother, George Ono, and sister, Rena Tsukishima preceded her in death.
