Bonnie Jean Lyman, 85, Gering
Funeral services for Bonnie Jean Lyman, age 85, of Gering, NE, who died April 1, 2013, at Regional West Medical Center, will be held Friday, April 5, 2013, at 2:30 pm, at Gering First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the WNCC Vocal Music Department or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Bonnie was born January 1, 1928, in Yoder, WY to Frank and Cecil (Larson) Holdeman. She graduated from Torrington, WY, High School and attended Colorado Women's College in Denver, CO. On May 23, 1948, she married C. W. "Bill" Lyman and they made their home in Gering thereafter. She was a member of PEO, Chapter EV (50-year member), Eastern Star, and the Gering First United Methodist Church.
Bonnie had a life-long love of music. She began taking violin lessons at 5 years of age and won many regional competitions with her natural talent. She taught violin lessons for many years and received the NE American String Teachers Association Studio Teacher of the Year Award in 2006. She was active in church choirs and often was requested to play violin solos at local events. She continued to support musical activities in the community in her golden years and especially enjoyed performances of the WNCC Vocal Music Department. Other favorite activities included several bridge clubs each month and cooking for her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Dr. Sherida E. (Douglas) Tollefsen of St. Louis, MO, C. Frank (Nancy Binks) Lyman of Cheyenne, WY, and Rebecca J. (Don) Kugler of Gering; seven grandchildren, Benjamin (Rosalind Canady) Tollefsen, Mark (Jae Won Kim) Tollefsen, Kathryn Lyman, Erin (David Marsh) Lyman, Anna Lyman, David Kugler, and Beth Kugler (fiancé Michael Levick); and her sister-in-law, Maryetta Lyman, of Alliance, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
