Nebraska Senators unhappy with Democrats' budget

The Senate will spend today voting on amendments to the Democrats budget bill.

The voting will reach a fever pitch late in the day in what has been called "Vote-o-Rama, where Senator Deb Fischer says the Senate will continue to vote on amendments until the group decides to actually vote on the bill. When that happens the Valentine Republican says she will not be able to support the legislation because of the new taxes and additional spending included in the measure.

Nebraska's senior Republican senator, Mike Johanns, criticized the bill for the same reasons in a floor speech Thursday saying it endangers the well being of future generations.

Fischer said she was pleased there was strong bi-partisan support on an amendment to eliminate a tax on sales of medical devices, which was intended to provide a lot of money to fund the President's health care plan. Johanns also voted for the amendment.
