The National Weather Service in Cheyenne says an F1 tornado that touched down in southwest Dawes County the evening of June 11th damaged sixteen or more structures and skipped several times during the one mile stretch it was on the ground. The Weather Service says a storm survey team that conducted a damage assessment last Thursday indicated the maximum width of the tornado was around 40 yards. It had maximum wind gusts of 110 miles per hour.

The survey team says the tornado touched down at 8:31 p.m. about 19 miles southwest of Chadron, initially snapping trees and telephone poles prior to damaging several structures along its path to the east. At least eight outbuildings were destroyed and two horse trailers were also thrown several hundred feet. No injuries or fatalities were attributed to this event.
