Betty Jean Scully, 89
Betty Jean Scully, 89 passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff.
Her memorial service will be held at Gering First United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be held at a later date at West Lawn Cemetery. A memorial has been established to The Residency.
Betty came in to the world on May 15, 1923 in Broken Bow, NE to Homer Ward and Lena Anna Sophia (Dreier) Fair, the 8th of 10 children. Betty loved being raised in a large, loving family and she graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1940.
After a short courtship, Betty and Arthur Maxmillian Scully were united in marriage on November 14, 1942 in a double wedding ceremony with their best friends, Glen Penwell and Irene Griffin in Omaha, NE. She and Arthur lived in Grand Island and Phillips, NE before moving to Gering in 1945, where they raised four daughters, Sheryl, Kandise, Laurie and Krissa. After many years of being a homemaker, Betty was employed at Lockwood Corp, the Scottsbluff County Assessor's Office and the office of Panhandle Coop. She then worked alongside her husband, Arthur, at his business, Scully & Brown Body Works which he owned and operated for 45 years in Gering, NE. They moved to The Residency in Scottsbluff in July 2012, where they enjoyed many old and new friends.
Betty was a member of Gering First United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the Gering Wildcat Archery Association, where they shared many happy hours with family and friends. She and Arthur loved music and dancing, camping, boating, fishing, and traveling in their motor home. Their family was always included in many outings and trips. They will always hold dear the wonderful memories of time spent together. Betty and Arthur recently celebrated their 70th anniversary on November 14, 2012. She felt very blessed to reach this milestone with her beloved husband. Family and friendships were Betty's greatest treasures in life. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held a very special place in her heart.
She is survived by her daughters Kandise (Dennis) Morton, Ventura, CA, Laurie (Ed) Morgheim, Scottsbluff, NE and Krissa (Wade) Griffith, Gering, NE; grandchildren: Shaun Cline, Hudson, CO, Shannon (Pete) Lauridsen, Golden, CO, Kim Nauenburg (Joe), Lewisville, TX, Brandon Morton, Ventura, CA, Dustin Morton, Irvine, CA, Rachel Morton, Bakersfield, CA, Kyle Morgheim, Irvine, CA, Brent Morgheim, Carlsbad, CA, James (Heather) Rein, Morrill, NE, Amy Rein, Stone Mountain, GA, Joel Griffith, Spearfish, SD, Bryce Griffith, Gering, NE; great grandchildren: Jess-see Cline, Phoenix, AZ, Brittany Nauenburg and Kaitlyn Nauenburg, Lewisville, TX, Jordon Burris, Reno, NV, Malana Morton, Ventura, CA, Dominic Rein and Braeleigh Rein, Morrill, NE, Cole Rein, Jordyn Rein, Cameron Rein, Stone Mountain, GA, Mina Griffith, Scottsbluff, NE, and Andrew Griffith, Torrington, WY. She is also survived by her brother Willard (Marianna) Fair, Spokane, WA and many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding Betty in death was her loving husband Arthur on February 2, 2013, daughter Sheryl Sue Cline, parents Homer and Lena Fair, and siblings Rosalind Haeffle, Dorothy Kindler, Bonnie Williams, James Fair, Edna Thompson, Verda Harris, Vera Blakeman and Lucille McCracken.
The family is comforted knowing Betty, a believer devoted to her Savior Jesus Christ, is now reunited in Heaved with the love of her life, Arthur.
