Demand high for Bluffs single stream recycling

The Scottsttsbluff city council Monday evening directed staff to draft an ordinance that will set the fee for the new pilot single stream recycling program at $4 per month.

Scottsbluff has 200 containers that will be used for the pilot program, which the city has indicated it hopes to begin after the first of the year. The program will be conducted in conjunction with a similar program Gering has already been operating with Waste Management officials in Denver.

City Manager Rick Kuckkahn told council members that demand for participation in the program has been high, and that all of the 200 pilot program containers have been spoken for. The containers will be distributed citywide, as opposed to original plans to confine the pilot program to a small area.
