Stalled traffic at I-80 construction zone causes three accidents
An Arizona truck driver backed into a State Patrol vehicle Wednesday morning as he tried to get around stopped traffic a mile east of the Potter interchange on I-80. The accident was one of three that occurred within 20 minutes shortly after 7 a.m. at the construction zone. All the accidents involved semis, even though there were no injuries.
44 year old James Johnson of Phoenix was the driver who caused $1,500 damage to the Patrol car as he was backing up to get around the stalled traffic. Another accident happened at the same time when a westbound truck crossed into oncoming traffic, jackknifed and slid down an embankment. There was $30,000 damage to the semi.
A semi rear-ended another 18 wheeler twenty minutes later because of the parked vehicles on the road. There was $6,000 damage to the two trucks.
