William "Bill" McDermott, 86, Bridgeport

William "Bill" McDermott, 86, of Bridgeport died Friday, May 17, 2013 at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Church of Christ in Bridgeport with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Broadwater, NE with military honors by the U. S. Navy. Memorials may be given in Bill's memory to the donor's choice. .

Bill was born January 14, 1927 in Eastwood Precinct NE in Broadwater, NE to William J. and Ethel (Anderson) McDermott. He attended grade school in Eastwood Country School and graduated from High School in Broadwater in 1944. While in high school Bill was class president for two years and was always active in all sports and was one of Broadwater's outstanding athletes. He was a member of the Junior play cast and very capably proved his ability as an actor. He had enough credits to graduate at the end of the first semester and he withdrew from school.

He entered the US Navy in January 1945 and entered Aviation Machinist School in Norman, OK. He was honorably discharged in April 1946. Bill returned to farm on the home place from 1946 until the present time. He married Barbara Spears in May 16, 1948 at Lisco, NE. to this union five children were born. He was rural mail carrier at Broadwater from 1966-1975and was transferred to Kimball as a carrier from 1975-1987. He retired to Bridgeport in 1987. After his retirement, he was a crop adjuster with Columbia and Blakely in Nebraska and Wyoming till the year 2000.

He had a passion for his Irish Heritage, hunting and golf, loved his family dearly and enjoyed visiting with friends. He had a deep faith in his Savior.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, children: Cyndia (John) Kitt, San Antonio, TX, William Patrick (Tajah) McDermott, La Grande, OR Andrea (Ken) Fields, Phoenix, AZ, Adina (Mike) Bauer, San Tan, AZ and John (Carla) McDermott, Eagle river, Alaska; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ann Adams and brother Dan McDermott
