AMI Touts Nutrition Benefits of Meat and Poultry
The American Meat Institute - in submitted comments to the 2015 U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee - expressed the importance of the nutrition benefits provided by meat and poultry. The group noted meat and poultry products are important and rich sources of highly bioavailable micronutrients. In Addition - AMI said the inclusion of meat and poultry products in the diet can prevent well-documented vitamin deficiencies. The committee requested comments on sodium reduction and food safety as well as sustainability. AMI said the issue of sustainability is outside the committee's charge and beyond its expertise.
