Johanns remains optimistic despite continuing resolution battle
Senator Mike Johanns says he remains optimistic Congress will avert a government shutdown even though Republicans in the Senate continue to push for defunding Obamacare as a requirement to keep the government operating.
Johanns says even if the Senate did pass a continuing resolution to defund Obamacare, it would not do a lot to actually stop the controversial legislation from becoming reality October 1st.
Johanns says defunding would only occur if Congress brings the government to a halt, and even in such a case, the Congressional Research Office has indicated you don't really stop it at all. Johanns also says because the law is mandated,it is not impacted by resolution.
Johanns says he favors an alternative strategy that would delay the Affordable Care Act for a year, and remains optimistic Congress will approve something to keep the government operating.
