Irma "Jean" Borland, 79
Irma "Jean" Borland, 79, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Willie Coop officiating. Inurnment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place in accordance with Jean's last wishes. A memorial has been established to WestWay Christian Church. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jolliffefuneralhome.com. The Jolliffe Funeral Home of Scottsbluff is assisting the family.
Jean was born April 8, 1934 in Torrington, Wyoming to H.H. "Henry" and Delcie (Redfern) Handley. She graduated from high school in 1952 in Hawk Springs, Wyoming.
Jean married Fred Borland on February 6, 1955 in Hawk Springs, WY. In her earlier years, she worked as an Avon and Tupperware sales representative and was a licensed cosmetologist. Later, she assisted her husband with bookkeeping and other duties included in his appliance repair business. After Fred's death in 1988, Jean became a home health caregiver until her retirement in February of 2012.
Jean loved her Lord and was a very active member of WestWay Christian Church. She attended several bible study groups, initiated a "55 and Alive" group with the church, was the leader of a "TOPS" weight loss group, was an active member of two grief support groups, and had fun as a member of the Red Hatters. She also was a volunteer for Regional West Medical Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeanette (Mike) McFeely of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Paige (Randall) Purdy of Kearney and Shane McFeely of Omaha; son-in-law, Jim Opfer of Aledo, TX; grandchildren, James Paul Opfer of WI, Jacey (Bradley) Mueller of WI, K.C. Blish Opfer, Jenna Opfer, Jhett Opfer and Jaron Opfer all of TX; two great grandchildren; brother, Jack (Ramona) Handley of Scottsbluff; one niece, one nephew, and her furry companion, Cindy.
Preceding Jean in death was her husband, Fred; son, Gary; daughter, Judy Opfer; brother, Billy Handley; sister, Lorene Rose; and three infant grandchildren.
