Alice Christian, 106

A funeral service for Alice Christian, age 106, who died on January 1, 2013, will be held Friday, January 4, 2013, 3 pm, at Gering First United Methodist Church.

Alice was born on November 19, 1906, at Oshkosh, NE to Clarence and Eltha Roudebush.

In 1919, she moved with her parents to Bayard, NE. In 1924, she graduated from Bayard High School. Following graduation she taught school in Morrill County schools.

On August 20, 1927, she was united in marriage to Ivan Christian at Holyoke, CO. They lived one year in Mitchell, NE after which they moved to Gering, NE. Two children were born to this union, son Paul and daughter Jean.

Alice was active in the church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Ladies Aid – United Methodist Women for the over 80 years that she was a member of the Methodist Church.

She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 81 years, being a Past Matron of the order. She loved playing cards with family and friends, both pinochle and bridge.

Since her husband's death in 1984, she devoted her time to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; parents; and siblings Elva Lane, Miles, Leonard, and Gordon Roudebush, June Shrader.

Alice is survived by her son, Paul (and Lydia) Christian of Mitchell, daughter Jean Gerner of Gering, grandchildren Cindy Nightingale, PA; David (and Kris) Christian, Gering; Bob Gerner, Denver; Kim (and Sean) O'Connor, VT; Kurt Christian, MI; Cheyenne Christian, Laramie; great-grandchildren Molly (and Nick) Howard, NC; Jillian Nightingale, FL; Sara Christian-O'Connor, VT; Jancy Nightingale, PA; Mandy (and Anthony) Murphy, Mitchell, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family graveside services will be held at West Lawn Cemetery prior to the 3 pm memorial service at Gering First United Methodist Church. Memorials have been established in Alice's honor at Gering First United Methodist Church and at Eastern Star. Gering Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
