Mitchell man arrested for impersonating a police officer on I-80
A 25-year old Mitchell man was arrested and jailed on a charge of impersonating an officer after a call from a concerned driver on Interstate 80.
Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, a motorist called the Nebraska State Patrol to report that the driver of a gold Saturn with Nebraska plates, was tailgating another car, flashing its headlights and showing a badge. The vehicles were both westbound on Interstate 80.
A short time later a trooper stopped a vehicle matching the description headed westbound on I-80 in Cheyenne County. The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Bobby E. O'Reiley of Mitchell, was in possession of a security badge, along with a 22-caliber pistol and two cans of mace.
O'Reiley was taken into custody and lodged in the Cheyenne County Jail on a charge of impersonating an officer and no operator's license. A female passenger in the vehicle was released.
