Planning continues for BBGH expansion
Planning continues to move forward for a 2-story 80,000 square-foot addition to Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance with funding in place but a final price is still being determined. Hospital CEO Dan Griess says he should have a clearer picture on that later this spring as the design phase nears completion.
Funding for the project...which will also renovate part of the existing building...including $3.3-million from hospital reserves, up to $8-million in county bonds, and a $23-million dollar federal from USDA Rural Development
General plans call for the addition to essentially wrap around the existing building, but Griess says the final design will be the direct result of public input.
Griess says one of the biggest complaints heard about the current hospital building from patients and visitors is that the layout is too confusing with too many entrances, exits, and hallways. That's addressed directly in the basic design of the addition.
Also reducing the confusion will be a new curved concourse fronted by the hospital's main outpatient health services making what Griess calls a "medical mall."
