Melvin B. Black, 92, Scottsbluff

Melvin B. Black, 92, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Willie Coop officiating. Casual attire is requested. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Cremation was held at Dugan-Kramer Crematory. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Mel was born August 31, 1921 in Maywood, NE to Benjamin Harrison and Effie Blanche (Thayer) Black. He came to the Scottsbluff area in 1935. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps August 26, 1942 and was a member of the 357 Fighter Group. He was honorably discharged November 19, 1945. He married Dorothy DeMaranville November 1, 1942 in Castle Rock, CO. Mel was service manager at S & T Motors for many years and then had S & B Repair with Chuck Shiba and later with LeRoy Knaub. Mel retired in 1985.

Mel loved golfing and sporting events and participated in golf, hunting, gardening and bowling.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Bruce (Stephanie) Black of Scottsbluff, grandson, Aaron (Laurie) Black of West Palm Beach, FL and special niece and nephew Connie and Ivan Harpold of Scottsbluff.

Mel was preceded in death by his son Doug in 1980, his parents, brothers Harold and Delbert and sister Helen Rogers Black.
