Lillian Elizabeth Barbour, 88, Scottsbluff

Lillian Elizabeth Barbour of Scottsbluff, Nebraska died October 16, 2012. She was 88 years old. At Lillian's request, her remains have been cremated at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. A family graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. A memorial may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the donor's choice. .

Lillian was born in Burkes Garden, Virginia September 28, 1924 to Grover Lee and Mary Elizabeth Strong. She graduated from high school in 1942. In 1943, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for five years at the U.S. Naval Observatory in the I.B.M Installation. She married W.O. Barbour (Bill) August 16, 1947 in Washington, D.C. and moved to Scottsbluff that same year. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher, and sang in the church choir. She also served as a volunteer for the soup kitchen, as well as the Pre-Admissions Program at Regional West Medical Center. She was a Cub Scout leader and a 50-year member of P.E.O., serving as president.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Bill Barbour, and their three children, Charles Barbour of Gering, Nebraska, Mary Anne Purtzer of Laramie, Wyoming, and Dwight Barbour (Jean Ann) of Scottsbluff. She is survived by five grandchildren, Aaron Purtzer (LeAnn) of West Richland, Washington, Nathan Purtzer (Ruth Ann) of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Lyndsey Barbour of Littleton, Colorado, Anne Schriner (Ron) of Laramie, Wyoming, and Brent Barbour (fiancé Rachael Skiles) of Omaha, Nebraska. Lillian is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Iris Purtzer, Silas, Shiloh, Eden, and unborn Purtzer, Reese Olson, and Emery Schriner.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Reese and Dwight Strong, and son-in-law, Barry Purtzer. She was a generous and self-less woman with extraordinary passion for, and dedication to her family, friends, church, and community. She will be greatly missed.
