Bridgeport council committee to study city administraor need

Bridgeport Mayor Jack Berg says a council committee will take until July to research whether or not the city should retain the position of city administrator.

The mayor and council over the last month have been looking at their options regarding the city administrator position and those discussions were at least part of the reason current City Administrator Bradley Hanson announced last week he is resigning effective May 17th to take a similar position with Onawa, Iowa. Hanson has been the city administrator since September, 2011

Berg says other communities, including their neighbor Bayard, have operated without a city administrator, and they are looking at whether the city can save money and still operate efficiently without one.

Hanson has indicated he hopes the city retains the position. Berg says in the period between May 17th and July when the committee comes back with its recommendation the city clerk and the mayor and council will take over the city administrator's responsibilities.
