Bluffs Council to consider request to support Keystone Pipeline
The Scottsbluff City Council Monday evening will consider submitting a letter of support for the Keystone XL Pipeline, whose route has been moved from the environmentally sensitive Sandhills to the eastern end of the state.
City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says the request to send the letter comes as part of the city's association with the Heartland Expressway Association and Ports to Plains Association, which made similar requests of all the Panhandle communities.
Kuckkahn says he doesn't have any idea how the council may come down on the issue. But he says at least they will have the opportunity to talk about the issue and know where the request came from.
The Gering council in October voted seven to one to send a letter supporting construction of the pipeline. In December, the Chadron City Council voted not to take a formal position on the controversial measure.
