Fred Kammerzell, 102

Fred Kammerzell passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. He was 102 years old. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Rev. Edward Veldhuizen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Congregational Church.

Fred was born in Grand Island, Nebraska to George and Anna Margaret (Gettman) Kammerzell on May 4, 1910. He lived there and in the Grand Junction area of Colorado, before moving to a farm in Scotts Bluff County in 1918. His early life was spent on the farm, after which he was a self-employed farmer, and a farm machinery assemblyman at Lockwood Graders in Gering, NE. In November of 1997, he moved to Cambridge, NE to be nearer to his daughter.

He was married to Mary Lohrie on June 29, 1932, and they became the parents of two daughters, Audrey and Marilyn. He was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Congregational Church, and accepted the Lord as his savior in 1975.

Survivers include his daughter, Marilyn (Dan) Funk, of McCook, NE; five grandchildren: Kandise Helling, Fort Collins, CO, Gregory (Julia) Helling, Mitchell, NE, Tami (Mike) Putz, Mesa, AZ, Michael (Janet) Funk, Choctaw, OK, and Jenise (Junior) Plasencio, Morrill, NE; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Preceding Fred in death were his parents, George and Anna Margaret Kammerzell; a daughter, Audrey Helling; and son-in-law, Oreval Helling; a brother, Henry and his wife, Marie Kammerzell; five sisters and their husbands, Anna Margaret and Conrad Groskopf, Anna Marie and John Lipps, Kathryn and Henry Scheidt, Amelia (Mollie) and Alex Kuxhausen, and Frieda and Jake Schwartz; and many nieces and nephews.
