Ross new Gering council member

Gering native Monnette Ross is the city's new council member for the next couple months , replacing Joyce Hillman as the representative in ward one. Ross will sit on the council until early December, when the elected council member from ward one will fill the position.

Ross was the recommended choice of Mayor Ed Mayo, and the council approved the recommendation on a seven to nothing vote.

Ross said she knew the city had a need and admitted she "wants to get a taste of it" in case she decides to run for election in the future. Ross says Gering is "not what it once was". Ross said she wants to find a way to fill empty buildings and spur new businesses and jobs to come to the downtown area.

Ross says being a major residential area is nice, but maintained Gering can be more than a "bedroom community for Scottsbluff".

Ross and her husband Dick have been very active in Boy Scouts throughout their life. Dick Ross is currently serving his second term on the city's Planning Commission, while Monnette has been Chair of the city's Board of Adjustment for seven years.
