30 people attend hotel investor meeting
Approximately 30 people attended a meeting Tuesday night by a Wisconsin based development group looking at building a multi-story, mid-scale hotel near the Gering Civic Center.
The group is anticipating a need for $2 million in investor financing for the five million dollar project, and is hoping much of that will come from local people. Brian Wogernese, President of Cobblestone Hotels, says while they still need to do a formal marketing study, they like to have good participation by local investors in any project they are doing.
Wogernese said he was impressed with the turnout Tuesday night. He says they will now gauge the local interest and see if there is a local bank that will get involved in the project, which is crucial.
Cobblestone is considering building on the former Health and Human Service property just north of the Civic Center owned by the city of Gering, which has indicated it would likely help out with tax increment financing to help cover infrastructure requirements and LB-840 funding.
Cobblestone Hotels already has properties in Fairbury, Seward, and Wayne, Nebraska and has under construction two other hotels in Hartington and Broken Bow.
