Scottsbluff Council approves budget
The Scottsbluff city council Tuesday night adopted an ordinance to approve a fiscal 2013-2014 budget that will include funding for an extra firefighter and upgrading a part-time code enforcement officer to full time.
City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says with the additional firefighter, the three shifts will all have five personnel, allowing for better scheduling during times of vacation, training or sick leave.
Kuckkahn says it will also reduce overtime, thus reducing the cost to add another person.
Kuckkahn says the extra firefighter will not be added immediately, but only be established after the city looks at scheduling changes and other options available.
Also, at the end of Tuesday's Council meeting, councilman Dave Boeckner submitted his official resignation from the council effective September 26th. Boeckner has been on the council for 17 years, including five as Mayor, and City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says he has appreciated his leadership. Boeckner's wife, Dr. Linda Boeckner, has joined UNL's College of Education and Human Sciences and is already in Lincoln. Boeckner has been planning on moving to Lincoln as well, but has not given a date for that move.
