Alcohol suspected in fatal accident
Alcohol is suspected in a one-vehicle accident that killed a Mitchell man Saturday afternoon.
The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office said 45-year-old Jose Louis Garcia of Mitchell was eastbound on Spring Creek Road about a mile and a half east of Mitchell when the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
The Sheriff's Office said Garcia lost control of his Chevy Tahoe, went off the road, over-corrected, returned to the road, went off the road again and struck a utility pole. The vehicle landed on its top. Garcia was not wearing a seatbelt, was not ejected, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say that they are expecting driver error and alcohol as factors in the accident.
The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Mitchell Police and Volunteer Fire Departments, Valley Ambulance, and City of Scottsbluff Fire Department at the scene.
