Doris May Rood, 86, formerly of Scottsbluff
Doris May Rood, 86, of Shoshoni, Wyoming, formerly of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Friday, March 15, 2013 in Casper, Wyoming. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 20 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 501 Wintercreek Drive, Scottsbluff. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with family members present from 7-9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Humane Society in honor of Doris and her love for animals.
Doris was born July 1, 1926 at Millinocket, Maine to Flora and Peter Raymond. She attended Stearns High School. Doris was united in marriage to Clarence Franklin Rood on June 15, 1946 at Manchester, New Hampshire. The couple lived in Manchester where their daughter, Donna, was born. They then moved to Millinocket, Maine for five years where Sharon, Clarence and Robert were born before later settling in Nebraska.
As a young girl, Doris was a figure skater. She also enjoyed fishing, bowling, crossword puzzles and writing poetry of which she had two poems published.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Donna (Hoot) Crichton of Shoshoni, WY, Sharon Brunkhardt and Robert (Barb) Rood of Scottsbluff and Clarence (Margie) Rood of Gering; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Raymond; and sister, Anita Powers.
Preceding Doris in death was her husband; three sisters; two brothers; and one great-great granddaughter.
