Gering donates $10,000 to Kimball Visitors Center

The Gering City Council Friday gave Kimball County Tourism Director Jo Caskey $10,000 to assist with the operation of the proposed High Points Visitors Center south of Kimball. Caskey is hoping to solidify lease agreements for the former Burger King property at the Highway 71 junction off Interstate 80 when she meets with the Kimball County Commissioners June 4th. The former fast food restaurant would be the location for the visitors center.

Caskey says tourism numbers in the panhandle have been flat since a rest and visitors area east of Kimball was demolished several years ago. Caskey emphasizes a new visitors center would reverse those numbers and get people off the interstate. Caskey said with some basic renovations, she hopes to have the center open by July first.
