Kenneth R. Risk, 64, Kimball
Kenneth R. Risk, 64, of Kimball, died at Kimball Health Services on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Memorial services will be held
at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 with Reverend Christine Plantz officiating.
Inurnment will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Friends may visit www.cantrellfh.com to view the obituary and
leave condolences for the family. Memorials have been established to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Kimball Teammates Program
or Prairie Haven Hospice. The services for Ken have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Kenneth Ross Risk was born in Omaha on July 23, 1948, the son of George and Eileen (Johnson) Risk. He attended Pratt Individual
School of Learning in Omaha and graduated in 1966. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict from 1969 to 1971. He was married to Bonnie Borer in Columbus, Nebraska in 1972. Between 1971 and 1980 Ken worked various jobs, including George Risk Industries. In 1981 he founded Platte Valley Sales and Service, Inc., in Hastings, Nebraska, a retail/wholesale company dealing in residential and commercial lighting and various other products. Upon the death of his father George in 1989 Ken assumed the duties of President and CEO of George Risk Industries, Inc., in Kimball. Ken maintained both businesses from 1989 until 1996 when he sold Platte Valley Sales and Service so he could focus on George Risk Industries.
In 1989, George Risk Industries employed about 75 people and today employs more than 150 at facilities in Kimball and Gering.
Ken was an avid supporter of the Tom & Nancy Osborne Teammates Mentoring Program. He served on the Program Board from 2003 -2009, the Foundation Board from 2008 to present and also the Kimball Area Teammates Board of Directors. He served on the Nebraska Aeronautics Board of Directors from 1999 to present and the Kimball County Aeronautics Board of Directors from 2000 to present. In 1998 he served on the Board of Directors for Greater Nebraska Work Task Force and during the summer of 2012 he accompanied Nebraska Governor Heineman to China on a trade commission trip. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, present chairman of the Kimball Airport Authority, active pilot with over 8,000 hours flown and a member of St. Hilda's Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife Bonnie Risk of Kimball, NE; daughters Stephanie (Ryan) McElroy of Kimball, NE., and Allison (Drew) Beers
of Syracuse, NE ; son Schuyler (Jen) Risk of Lincoln, NE; sister Delores Spradlin of Centennial, CO; grandchildren Sage Nicole Beers
and Zachary Todd Beers and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dale and
